Health Setbacks for Daniel Taylor

As of August 14, 2002, longtime Atlanta-area SF and SCA fan Daniel Taylor remains at Crawford Long Hospital suffering from a double cerebral hemorrhage. He has temporarily lost vision on his right side and is having some trouble speaking and understanding.

Taylor suffered a mild heart attack earlier this summer while on his way to work. He made it to the parking lot of his employer and called his boss and good friend, Jake Skidmore. Jake immediately called for an ambulance. After observation at Kennestone Hospital in Cobb County, Taylor was transported to Crawford Long where a stent was inserted in his heart by one of the doctors who invented the stent.

Daniel reported that he felt immediate relief when the stent opened the coronary artery. He watched a monitor showing the video of the stent winding its way into his heart from the femoral artery.

The family speculates that the blood thinning medication Daniel was receiving for the heart attack may have played a role in the hemorrhage.

Daniel and his wife Oreta spent many years participating in the SCA Kingdom of Meridies and published its newsletter for much of that time. In recent years he has focused his writing efforts on the Atlanta Radio Theater Company, which performs radio dramas and comedies on the radio and at special interest conventions. He has been the Official Editor of the apa Myriad for many years and writes an Internet journal called Dreaded Purple Master Blog, the name referring to his Myriad zine titles. Daniel and Oreta edited the daily newszine at the 1986 World SF Convention, titled Articles of ConFederation.

Daniel is currently in the intensive care unit at Crawford Long with limited visitation and access. Messages may be sent through the blog.

Please keep all of the Taylor household in your thoughts and prayers as Daniel recovers from these conditions.
